Originating in Nigeria, the inception of Women Foundation for Shea Butter Making Skills (WOFSHEAMS) in 2007, was deeply rooted in a commitment to bring all the Shea women under one umbrella and to foster a positive change. Founded with a resolute vision, WOFSHEAMS facilitated the signing of a permanent tripartite agreement between it, Saleton and the local community leaders in Nigeria to consolidate and guarantee availability of adequate quantities of Shea nuts to sustain Saleton’s Shea butter order from their customers. It is significant to note that the purchase of these Shea nuts is from the very community it aims to empower.
This agreement not only demonstrates our dedication to the community’s sustainable development but also reinforces our belief in equitable economic growth. WOFSHEAMS’ commitment to this pact serves as a testament to our values and determination to make a genuine impact.
Expanding our reach and mission, WOFSHEAMS has been registered in the United States. With this dedicated branch in the US, our focus remains unwavering: uplifting the women of the community from the grasp of poverty. Through empowerment, training, and a shared sense of purpose, we are resolutely dedicated to breaking the chains of impoverishment and fostering a future brimming with hope and opportunity for these resilient women.
Experience, Education, and Exposure: Actualization of the Shea Dream
In pursuit of the challenging Shea business dream, Saleton’s Vice President, also the Founder and President of WOFSHEAMS, Salome Ihedirionye, embarked on a journey of acquiring crucial experience, education, and exposure. In 2006, she attended a WATH organized training in Nigeria titled “Shea 2006- Exporting Quality and Quantity.” Subsequently, in 2009, she participated in the German Government Agency, GTZ organized Shea Quality Improvement Training Program (SQITP) in Nigeria
Determined to expand her knowledge further, Salome engaged in various seminars, workshops, and international trade shows. Equipped with extensive expertise and insights, Saleton International was ready to venture into the Shea business, transforming their dream into reality. Below are some of her certifications.
