Saleton International, LLC: Making Impact since 2010
Saleton International, LLC, originally incorporated in Nigeria in 2000 as Saleton International Limited, has emerged as a powerful advocate of empowerment through the processing, packaging, and marketing of food and agricultural products, including Shea Butter, Shea Nut, African fabrics, and Crafts. Our journey spans two continents, originating in Nigeria and blossoming in the United States.
Witnessing the prevalence of poverty in Africa, particularly among rural women and their children, Saleton recognized the need for targeted efforts to uplift these vulnerable communities.
The Birth of Shea Butter Supply
After identifying Shea Butter as a product with significant commercial value and its availability in areas with high populations of disadvantaged women, Saleton made a strategic decision to utilize Shea Butter as a means to address poverty alleviation. Hence, Shea Butter Supply, LLC, is a subsidiary of Saleton International, LLC, doing business under the trade name, “Shea Butter Supply”.
Training for Positive Impact
At the heart of our journey is the determination to fight poverty, particularly prevalent in Africa. We believe in the power of commerce and social responsibility, channeling part of our profits towards improving the lives of the poor, especially in the areas where we operate.
To realize this challenging dream, our Vice President, Salome Ihedirionye, played a pivotal role in realizing this ambitious vision by undergoing specialized training in Shea Butter production and quality improvement. Equipped with newfound knowledge and experience, she became a driving force behind Saleton International’s entry into the Shea business, fueled by a deep commitment to making a positive impact on the lives of rural women.

Salome’s dedication to excellence led her to attend WATH (West African Trade Hub) and GTZ (German Government Agency) organized training programs, which served as crucial stepping stones in laying the foundation for Saleton International’s successful foray into the world of Shea Butter. These training programs not only honed her skills but also provided valuable insights and connections that proved instrumental in the company’s journey towards empowering communities and promoting sustainable development.

One of our main reasons of going into Shea business is to fight poverty which is highly prevalent in Africa. The idea is to spend part of the profit made from the business in improving the lives of the poor especially in the areas where we do business.
Women, especially the rural ones are the most vulnerable in this poverty malady. They and their children suffer the highest level of depravity. It therefore became clear that rural women and their children should be the focus in this poverty alleviation effort.

To give a stamp of authority and accord international recognition to the training of our workers, Dr. Peter Lovett, the world-renowned shea expert, in July 2009 assessed the depth and adequacy of the training imparted to the women. At the end of the assessment, Dr. Lovett confirmed and affirmed the adequacy of their training, adding that they were fully prepared and capable of producing good quality shea butter. A photograph of the training session with Dr. Lovett is shown above.
